Look at your Options
There are many factors to consider when moving a family to a new location but one key decision is “Where will the children go to school?” No longer are the days when all the neighbourhood children would venture off walking to the same school. Today’s families have choices to make about where and how their children will be educated. Public, French Immersion, Private, Arts, Montessori, and Christian schools are just a few of the options you may have right within your new neighbourhood. How do you know what is the best schooling option for your children? Many schools encourage you, along with the children, to visit the school during class time. Tour the facility, learn about the curriculum, understand what extra-activities such as: sports, music, drama, and social clubs are available. Are there language, enrichment, and resource programs offered? Is there transportation available? Does the school welcome parental involvement and volunteerism? Take time to observe the student body and how they interact with one another.
Making the right decision can make your child’s transition into their new community a comfortable one.
